Locking

Locking seems very basic, right? You just lock onto someone and get them as a contract/expose them, yeah, but there are also a couple other things that many people seem to forget about, or maybe they don’t even know about:

  • host lock

  • (spam) locking when running up a building

  • keeping one’s lock

  • unlocking in a smoke bomb

Host Locks

Host locks are annoying as heck. Instantly getting the lock is extremely useful, but very unfair. Lots of people also do the “unlock-relock trick”, which is exactly what it sounds like, the host unlocks and immediately relocks the person, which gives them an incognito for a bit.

“So, how do you deal with this?” Might be what you’re thinking right now. Well, you’re pretty much forced to go for vulch kills on the host, because you’re probably never going to win a lock battle against them and they can easily chase you down with the “unlock-relock trick”. But, if you want to get normal kills on the, you can try baiting them into starting chases with you, which you can do by baiting them into unlocking you and relocking you and just locking them over and over, until they finally start a chase, which is when you can go in for an easy kill.

Running up a Building

This is something I see a lot of people not doing; when you run up a building, you should always lock the player on top of said building. Otherwise, they can easily just lock you and kick you in the head. However, if you can’t get a lock, you should try going up the building, but not far enough as to being in the player’s sight, which is when you turn your camera so you can see them and lock them. Or, if you’re unable to do that, just spam the lock button like a bitch.

If you’re the one on top of the building, you should always try turning your camera to the point where you can see the person and get a lock onto them, never run all the way to the edge without a lock on whoever’s running up the building.

Holding the Lock

One of the most aggravating, yet one of the easiest, ways of killing someone is by simply holding the lock. Sure, you’re going to get a discreet, but it’s better than dying/chasing.

There are lots of situations in which one should keep one’s lock: when someone’s jumping onto another ledge, because they’re probably going to try to jump back you; when running up a building (which I just explained); when someone’s above you and can arial you; or simply when the host is running at you.

Unlocking in Smoke Bombs

This is probably one of the most respectful things you can do in ACB assassinate. Lots of people just keep their lock and force you to stun them, which makes you vulnerable and wastes their time, plus, if they unlock you at the right time, they can maybe even get a stun off on you. So, I recommend always keeping the lock onto someone when you’re in their smoke, unless they run at you, which is when you should always unlock the person.
