# Holding a Controller

Now, if you use an Xbox controller, I’m very sorry, but you’re screwed. On Xbox, you’re probably only going to be able to have your index finger on A and the rest of your fingers covering the analog sticks, the triggers and the bumpers, although you can move your right middle finger from the bumper to the Y button, which is actually very useful, but can be very painful.

\#PS3MasterRace controller users are the ones who are lucky as hell, as they can hold their controller in very efficient ways, often without even hurting their hands!

Lots of PS3 players hold their controllers in different ways: some have their index fingers on the analog sticks, some (me, for example) have their right middle finger on the triangle button, so this is going to be a bit longer.

### Making it Not Painful

You have to let the controller lie in your hand, so just hold it in a normal way, then just tilt it forward, without tilting your hands, which makes it very comfortable to claw.

### Finger Placement

You can choose if you want to put your index fingers or your thumbs on the analog sticks, although I prefer the thumbs. With the rest of your fingers, though, you should definitely keep fingers on R2/L2 and R1/L1 at all times, as well as one finger on X and the other one on the D-pad. The finger on the D-pad thing might seem weird, but it’s actually very good, as it lets you tilt the controller very well, and, although it’s useless in assassinate, you can switch your targets while running in manhunt/chest capture. I also like putting my right middle finger on triangle, although this can be uncomfortable and it’s probably not wise to do this when you’re just starting to get used to clawing.
